    Wi-Fi on Eastern LD Trains

Been amazed by the performance of the WiFi today on the Crescent 20 (19). Outperforming the WiFi in the NEC that I am used too. *knocks on wood*

    Texas Eagle Summer Consist

I was on 21 three days ago, and the sleepers were in the front.

Last week was probably our last LD trip on Amtrak

I had the kind of experience on 49 (12) today that definitely would have me saying "never again" to Amtrak, due to poor service from the SCA (though saying poor service implies there was service to begin with, and there was not) and cleanliness issues. Fortunately, I have taken so many trips on...

Getting off and on the train - besides destinations.

You'll also get that wonderful announcement on the train as you approach a smoking stop that goes something to the effect of: "XXX is a designated smoking stop, feel free to step outside to smoke or catch a breath of fresh air." Which always makes me wonder, where exactly will the fresh air be...

    Sunset Limited #1 status

Crossing my fingers, I'll be on it (#2) in three weeks from SAS to NOL. I have been paying attention to this as closely as possible from NYS (which isn't very well). Amtrak.com had listed it for the past week and a half in the service disruptions section of their website through the 25th. I...

TX, LA Consider Closing I-10; Flood delays?

For people who are familiar with this area and this kind of thing: What's the likelihood this (track repairs/recovery) carries on into mid-April?

    Sorry to the family...

Thanks for the responses. To clarify a couple points: I will not be on board for the full duration of the route, but I will be from it's biggest mid-point city within the route, to its final destination, and will be on board approximately 18 hours. The same train from it's origin point to the...

    Sorry to the family...

... that will not have a family bedroom on the train I just booked for late April. Blame Amtrak for having it only be $50 more then a roomette and about $250 cheaper then a standard bedroom. The extra space that I would have made it a no-brainer for me, but how much money is Amtrak potentially...

Excess Carry-on Baggage Fee Began October 1, 2015

Very generous allotment. If you're carrying more then this onboard, then you should be charged.

Yahoo's odd picks for favorite train trips

In a nutshell, I find, as do others, Yahoo articles to *generally* be poorly researched or poorly written. It is rare do I read an article by a yahoo writer and feel like the time I spent reading it was well-spent. It seems as though Yahoo is more interested in catchy headlines to draw clicks...

Sleeper tips I am providing for my brother's Amtrak trip

Bring duct tape. This way if you find your roomette is getting too hot or cold you can cover the vents with the duct tape to keep that excessive warm or cold air from coming in.

    Scenery on the Pennsylvanian?

Thank you for the info, especially formerOBS, I think you have talked me into it! I'll look up that Broadway Limited guide, didn't think about that! Penny: That's about the same time I would be taking the route. If I do it, I would take it westbound on the 14th.

    Scenery on the Pennsylvanian?

Thinking of a shorter 3-day trip and I have done most NE routes already, but the Pennsylvanian is actually a train I have not been on. Since I am from upstate NY, I have been through PA (Wilkes-Barre eastward to Philly) frequently. I've driven through the back roads of the Pocono Mountains...
