Are you referring to existing Amfleet equipment? Not exactly my idea of an acceptable long distance lounge car.

May have missed this, but saw nothing in reference to new lounge cars. Are they now considered unnecessary in modern train consists?

According to newspaper accounts describing the congressional 'stimulous' bill, much of the money authorized will actually be spent in later years - which means the recession will have been over by that time. It defeats the whole purpose of such a bill.

As I remember it the Broadway Ltd split into two sections, with one going to DC and the other to NYC. And the Capitol Ltd did not exist then. So not sure how money or equipment could come into play if the Broadway was replaced by the Capitol. I seem to recall track problems had been an issue...

IMHO that's all the more reason for Amtrak to step back after the requirements have been agreed upon. In my lifetime there's never been an opened-ended spigot of cash available for passenger rail equipment purchases so it would be a real shame if these funds were again wasted on after-the-fact...
