Will Amtrak get lost checked luggage to you?

I checked a bag in Tampa on Christmas Eve one year, traveling to DeLand via Thruway motorcoach to the Silver Meteor in Orlando. For whatever reason, the bag did not make it onto the bus and was still in Tampa when I arrived in DeLand. They sent the bag to DeLand on that evening's Silver Star...

    Miami

It is easiest to disembark from Amtrak in Hollywood or Ft. Lauderdale then board a Tri-Rail commuter train to the Metrorail transfer station. That way you avoid having to walk from the Miami Amtrak station over to the Tri-Rail.

1st Trip and Last Trip, If That

From the description, it sounds like this is the bridge which crosses the St. Johns River at the north end of Lake Monroe. This bridge has been problematic in the past, so while I sympathize with the OP, I am glad to learn that the bridge is going to be replaced.   On December 23, 2009, the...

    Union Stations???

Actually, at the time, the "Greyhound" and "Trailways" brands did not yet exist, or at least not in Florida. There were two successive Union Bus Stations in Tampa to my knowledge, with the last one opening in 1926. Old photos show White Bus Line (formerly White Stage Line) and Florida Motor...

    Silver Meteor To Florida

Winter Park is a smaller station, but I wouldn't consider it "quaint". The station was built in 1962, and has all the architectural appeal of a gas station, in my opinion. That said, its surroundings in downtown Winter Park are very charming and beautiful, and if you have time to kill there...

    Union Stations???

The same concept has been used for other modes of transport. Tampa at one time had a Union Bus Station in addition to Tampa Union Station, the train station which remains in operation today. I'm not certain which Bus companies operated out Union Bus Station, but Tampa Union Station was built...

Amtrak on "The Six Pack" podcast

Lol.. I think they just used the LGBT advertising subject to segway into another trending/recent headline regarding Amtrak's food service.

Amtrak on "The Six Pack" podcast

Amtrak is discussed on the latest episode of "The Six Pack" podcast (heard on SiriusXM satellite radio and available for download).   The four minute discussion occurs during the show's "Trending" segment, beginning at the 10:00 mark. This summary appears on the show's website: Anyone can...

    Jacksonville, FL

Below are quotes from a thread found in the Amtrak Rail Discussion forum: Silver Star - WAS - JAX. The information seemed well suited to the What to See, and Where? forum, especially since there was no prior thread related to Jacksonville.

    Microwave and hot water

Yes, I believe hot tea is still available on Cafe Car menus, so ordering a cup minus the tea bag is at least an option if you are just looking for hot water.   Depending on the Cafe attendant, though, I'd bet if you just ask them for a cup of hot water, they might give you one free of...

    On DiscoverOurTown.com for Transporation/Trains

I'll take the fact that nobody has posted any reviews at the bottom of the page as an encouraging sign that, fortunately, few people are using DiscoverOurTown.com as a source to expand their horizons. :giggle:   Somebody's paying attention, though... they've already changed the page to...
