Figured I'd start a thread to keep track of when P42s receive Phase VII throughout the next few years now that the transition has begun. The dates will be when they were released out of Beech Grove and will be updated whenever new ones come out. AMTK 174 - 1/29/24 AMTK 82 - 3/11/24

Mondays have typically been the day that Amtrak ferries engines and cars from Beech Grove back to Chicago on the Cardinal to be placed back in service. For 3 weeks in a row now, there's been nothing on Monday's Cardinal coming into Chicago but the usual Cardinal consist, and it doesn't appear...

At this point, I would think they probably won't repaint anything other than the V1s especially since the Amfleet 2s are supposedly one of the next things to be replaced, and perhaps the Superliner 1s not far behind. So far the only cars to get repainted into IIIb were 8400 and 62043 and those...

I think this is the train you're referring to. It was the Indianapolis 8400.

Neat to see 8400 and the VL2 Diner in the same consist.

Perhaps 62043 was a "test" car for the Phase IIIb scheme. Then again, if that's the case, we should've seen an Amfleet test car too, and so far nothing on that front.

Apologies for bringing up an old topic, but I'm curious if Amtrak is still planning to convert their long distance single level trains to the "Amtrak America" branding with Phase III colors or if that's being scrapped because so far, only 2 regular passenger cars have been repainted into Phase...

It was in front of the normal Cardinal set though, so it definitely came out of Beech Grove.

There was an extra Viewliner on #51 and it looked like 62002, but it was still in Phase IVb and still said "Viewliner 62002" written where it should say Appomattox River. Again, I couldn't tell the number for sure, but it did look to be 62002. And it didn't come back south on #50 that night...
