My position:

I believe that there's a lack of honestly in the discussion of rail. People who don't want to fund rail through tax dollars aren't necessarily anti-rail, as seems to be the assumption. They probably rightly recognize that tax dollars have to come out of the pockets of taxpayers, and simply don't believe taxpayers should be forced to fit that bill. It's a reasonable position to take.

It's also not right to justify Amtrak's subsidy by pointing out other programs' subsidies. Amtrak should or should not be subsidized regardless of who else might be getting a check. Either rail is worth it or it's not; two wrongs don't make a right.
