The Surfliner locomotives pull from Los Angeles and push toward LA. What this means is while selecting a seat, face the locomotive. THEN pick the right side. When leaving San Diego also face the locomotive and then pick the left side.

I travel past the yard in Los Angeles quite frequently. Since I’ve grown weary of admiring the natural beauty of the Los Angeles River on the east side of the Surfliner I more typically look at the yard. There hasn’t been a Parlour Car there in many months.

Although I’ve used SAC a few times, I wouldn’t use Red Cap and therefore don’t recall if the service is provided. Amtrak’s web site was of no help.
