Lunch is my least favorite meal on the trains. If I were a customer, I'd rather go eat in the cafe car for that meal.

I bring my own bottle of spice blend (mccormick or whatever) to put onto my vegetables. Otherwise they're waaay too bland. Also, the new crab cakes are OK. They have a lot of sodium in them, even though you can't really taste it.

It is indeed "TAS" and "TAC" when referring to those already on the train, and where they are working. But the board is called "train attendant" in general, since they combined the train attendant and service attendant (diner) boards a few years ago.

That hanger steak (or whatever it is called now) is pretty small :\ I miss when we used to get different cuts - New York, T-Bone, etc.

Yes, we have an awesome Chef on our crew ^_^ . And we do indeed order food from Taylor and also at Pontiac, IL. The place we get food from at Pontiac has the best Parmesan garlic chicken wings!

I really miss the half-chicken! I'm not really a fan of white meat, and I would eat that mostly at ever dinner. Me and my coworkers always bring hot sauce just for that reason. I tried the new breast and it was OK I guess.

I also do this. When I train new people, I always hope I'm their first trainer so I can impart this "wisdom" on making the food the best it can possibly be, keeping drinks cold, etc. Sadly, I've gotten a few lately who have no desire to do this with the food, because of the way they were taught...

As far as I'm aware, beverage service on all trains in the sleeping car is only from around 6 am to 11 am. They should have an Amtrak sign up in that area of the sleeping car where the coffee pot is saying this. As for ice, the FDA said we can't have ice chests in the sleeping car (probably...

Hello! I've been looking at the forum since around 2003, which is also when I got hired in to Amtrak, but I've finally made an account to post on. I'm an LSA that currently works in the cafe lounges on a long distance train out of Chicago.

Yeah, the re-route caused us some delays getting to St. Louis on the way back to Chicago, and we were delayed about two hours when we got back in yesterday when all was said and done. I'm an LSA in the cafe car.
