I had an urge to take a train ride yesterday and the only space left out of Chicago was a roomette to Galesburg and BC back in the Carl Sandburg.

At Union station the boarding procedures in the lounge is a bit different. Rather than go down the hall past the bathroom we were directed out the front doors and then down the ramp in the middle. Some passsengers familiar with the old procedure tried to go down the hall by the bathroom and were redirected.

We walked through the coach waiting area and the were asked to stand to the side for a few minutes in the area by the gates where the handicapped waiting area used to be. There were no seats. We then walked down and boarded. The conductor scanned sleeper tickets on the platform.

I had a refurbished sleeper. The rug and seats were new. The reading lights had the older controls. Heat worked when I rotated the nob. The bathrooms were not refurbished.

On the Carl Sandburg I was ticketed for business class. When the train arrived I positioned myself to board the amfleet car at the rear coach door where the conductor opened up.

He directed me to the VENTURE bc car at the head end which was at the opposite end from the food service car.

Since these are changes that are new to me I thought I would post them here rather than trip reports
