#1 son (28 yo) and I take the EB on Wednesday 7/21. Yesterday he sprained his ankle and has an ace and brace on - should only walk short distance. I vaguely recall that there are carts at the station to take folks who need help to their car. Is that right? We are in a sleeper. Thanks. We are SO looking forward to this trip.

If the H room hasn't been booked, you might look into having your bedroom switched. If you go with the H room, your son won't have to climb the stairs to get to the bedroom. However, the bathroom doesn't have a door, just a curtain, so the privacy issue is there. They are really designed for wheelchair passengers, but when I broke an ankle and was pretty immobile, my sleeping car attendant told me that if I wanted to switch from an upstairs bedroom, he could make that happen.

The H room is available for anyone who has limited mobility, not just wheelchair passengers.

For the OP.....just go to the ticket counter at King Street and inquire into a change of reservation or being that your trip is on Tuesday, maybe you can call Amtrak. There are two beds in the room so you both can be accommodated. Also, once aboard, ask your attendant to deliver meals to the room as the dining room is upstairs.
