    Romney's plan for Amtrak

When will the GOP experiment with someone who isn't a Bond villain in disguise?

    Another RR Icon to Fall

This is sad. Make way for another bland skyscraper.

how fast are Acela trains allowed to go when passing through stations?

I've only seen the Acela speed through the Kingston, RI station, but I know that section of track is some of the fastest (and straightest) on the corridor.

Pity you felt the need to tell us.

    Palmetto tragedy

Well said. I just wanted to quote this in case anyone missed it.

    Greyhound experience?

I try to avoid the bus if possible, but it just happens to be the cheapest and most convenient way of getting to Marquette, MI from Providence. I'd rather take Amtrak (or even fly), but I'm stuck on the bus. Any tips for trips on Greyhound? How good are they with keeping track of luggage? I...

    Providence, RI Station Public Lockers

No public lockers in Providence, but there is a baggage window; maybe if you ask kindly they will hold your luggage for you?

    Cheap bus lines

Im considering doing Boston -> Portland, OR this summer on Greyhound. I'm sure it won't be fun but $100 each way seems too tempting. At least I'll appreciate Porltand more after a miserable 3 and a half day trip.

    Teens Hopping Freights

Nice article, but for some reason I can't view the photo gallery. I find the whole sub-culture very interesting and I can definitely see the attraction in riding the rails.

Bugged at Newark by train crew, sorta.

I wouldn't let it get to you. Sounds like she is on a power trip - hopefully you won't have to see here again.

    Boarding 66 in NYP

There is actually a cafe and one of those newsstand/convenience stores in the station. The station is also a short walk from downtown and right across the street from a large mall if you wanted something else.

    another nutjob bash at Amtrak

    Where are trains refreshed?

I remember on the Empire Builder there seemed to be a long stop in St. Paul, MN (going westbound). They seemed to be emptying trash off the train, restocking food, water, etc. We were probably stopped there for a good 45 minutes.

What's your fave part of a train ride

The people, adventure, conversations, overheard conversations, memories, sleepless nights, gritty big cities, small towns, vast empty space ... I can't put my finger on it exactly. I love the whole atmosphere and always feel like a I go through a range of emotions when riding the train.

    World's largest model railroad

http://dvice.com/archives/2009/03/astonishing_mos.php This is pretty awesome. The detail of the city scenes is equally as impressive as the trains!

    "Trains are for Tourists"

I'm surprised NPR would publish this sort of propaganda. So much for the "liberal media" myth.

    Perception of Trains

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) It actually runs every 15-30 minutes during peak hours (most lines), but it still certainly leaves a lot to be desired. They recently cut back the schedule on most of the routes and even eliminated a few - at a time when RIPTA is seeing its highest ridership...

New York Walk on a Sunday

I'll leave someone else to comment on the connection, but if you did ok walking around Boston, you should have no problem with Manhattan. For the most part, all streets are in a numbered and grided pattern, so you shouldn't have much trouble at all.

    Are Trains Ever Sold Out?

When I went to Seattle two summers ago, the Lake Shore Limited and Empire Builder were sold out most of the way. I remember sitting on the floor of a regional train from Providence to New Haven before they added another coach and I was able to get a seat (this was right before all trains became...
