I'm currently planning a trip, and it's not clear who all is going at the present moment. I'm wondering, if I buy a ticket for me and a friend (in this example, I will be using points for a sleeper roomette), can I later go back and change the name of the friend without incurring a penalty? ...

A friend of mine has kindly offered to transfer her companion coupon to me. I called AGR and I was told that the only way to do this was for her to book the travel and for me to reimburse her. However, I see people trading these coupons on this site all the time. How do you trade a coupon?

Can you get the 20,000 points, then get the 12,000 points when you move down to the free one?

I was willing to pay the annual fee once to get the 30,000 point bonus. I don't want to pay the fee a second year in a row.

We are considering cancelling the cards before the year is up to avoid the annual fee. However, I also read somewhere that calling Bank of America and asking for the fee to be waived is often successful. Has anyone succeeded in getting the annual fee removed?

I think a neglected point on this thread is that Amtrak uses price buckets to tie train prices to demand. A low demand train is by definition already discounted for that day because it's still in the lowest price bucket.

I always appreciated having the AAA discount and am sad for my own sake to see it go away. I always wondered how this discount, and all the others ones, was financially advantageous for Amtrak. With AAA, student, senior, etc discounts, it seemed to me that Amtrak was giving away too much...
