Changing Name of Companion on Ticket

Thanks for the feedback. What is an "open sleeper ticket"?

Changing Name of Companion on Ticket

I'm currently planning a trip, and it's not clear who all is going at the present moment. I'm wondering, if I buy a ticket for me and a friend (in this example, I will be using points for a sleeper roomette), can I later go back and change the name of the friend without incurring a penalty? ...

How to Transfer a Companion Coupon

A friend of mine has kindly offered to transfer her companion coupon to me. I called AGR and I was told that the only way to do this was for her to book the travel and for me to reimburse her. However, I see people trading these coupons on this site all the time. How do you trade a coupon?

    Cancelling AGR Card and Points

Can you get the 20,000 points, then get the 12,000 points when you move down to the free one?

    Cancelling AGR Card and Points

I was willing to pay the annual fee once to get the 30,000 point bonus. I don't want to pay the fee a second year in a row.

    Cancelling AGR Card and Points

A quick question: how long are points earned with the AGR Mastercard (World or Platinum) valid for after the card is cancelled? Myself and some friends all applied for the card last year when the 30,000 points offer was available. Amtrak Guest Reward's website says the following: An Amtrak...

    AAA Discontinued Effective 2/18/18

I think a neglected point on this thread is that Amtrak uses price buckets to tie train prices to demand. A low demand train is by definition already discounted for that day because it's still in the lowest price bucket.

    AAA Discontinued Effective 2/18/18

I always appreciated having the AAA discount and am sad for my own sake to see it go away. I always wondered how this discount, and all the others ones, was financially advantageous for Amtrak. With AAA, student, senior, etc discounts, it seemed to me that Amtrak was giving away too much...

Food Preparation on Long Distance Trains

I've heard in a couple places that the Empire Builder may have at least some small advantages in the level of service. Is that true?

Food Preparation on Long Distance Trains

I'm curious about how Amtrak prepares their food on long distance trains. Are these meals cooked from scratch on board, or are they prepared off site and microwaved? I'm particularly interested in the set-up on the Texas Eagle which I ride fairly often. Amtrak's website says that the TE is...
