North East Corridor (NEC) night train and sleeper journey

On my WAS-BOS trip on Train 66 leaving WAS on May 25, the sleeping car attendant said we had 11 passengers. How they were arranged in the bedrooms and roomettes, I don't know. I also don't know where they got on and off. At least one of the 11 passengers rode from NYP-BOS only.

FYI: Hertz Chicago Union Station is closing

For years, when arriving or departing Chicago by Amtrak, I've used the Enterprise office at 555 W. Madison. Enterprise's web page even calls this the "Chicago Union Station" office. It is in the base of the four identical Presidential Towers, an easy landmark to spot from a distance when...

CZ Colorado trip in spring/summer - avoiding Wyoming detour...

Likewise, I reserve my CZ trips early and try to keep the date away from maintenance times.  But the maintenance dates fall all over the summer and fall calendar. Here's what I have in my files for CZ detours.  The dates are not exact.  Also, I must have missed notices of the 2016 detours.  Go...

Hiawatha Service - seats on 331 boarding at GLN

My notes show 329 as "mostly full", 331 as "50%", and 333 as "25%". Option 1: Can you leave 2 hours later on 333? Option 2: If you absolutely must have a window seat (as I do), you could take Metra scoot 2112 leaving Glenview at 7:19am and arrive at Chicago Union Station at 7:54am. That...

Individual Guidelines for Booking a sleeper?

None of the commenters have mentioned their age. Up through age 35, I could spend two consecutive nights in a Superliner coach and wake up refreshed. Nowadays at age 58, a single night in coach leaves me uncomfortable and groggy the next morning. Sleeping horizontal is now a luxury I gladly...

Interesting short rides from Boston North station?

As p&sr said in this forum on August 9, 2010, "Another fine one-day excursion from Boston would be the Commuter Train to Rockport, Mass. (just past Gloucester), which also leaves from North Station. Very scenic and very pleasant. Rockport is a small, quiet resort town, with an historic harbour...

Has anyone here ridden every Amtrak route?

As of last June I've done 100% of the current network. Here's a tip for all you potential aces. Don't forget the SKT-SAC segment. I realized I did, and it was several years before I could get back to California and ride it. It's only served by two (in each direction) San Joaquins a day.

Bustitution for Carl Sandburg April May 2010

Because of track work, portions of Train 381 and 382, the Carl Sandburg, will have bus substitution in April and May of 2010. This train runs between Chicago and Quincy, IL. The train will run normally between Chicago and Macomb, but a bus will be used for the portion between Macomb and...

"Flyaway Bus" Service from LAX to Union Station-Anyone Used

The web site says the trip will take 30 to 50 minutes. My last trip, on a nice Monday afternoon, took 1 hour and 33 minutes from the time I stepped aboard the bus because of traffic. Still, a much better alternative than taxi or subway.
