Lurker - Nice report, sorry to hear about the bus ride at the end of the trip. Probably not the ending you wanted to your trip. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the Star versus the Meteor.

Remember to keep in mind that the Quik-Trak machine may not be accessible 24/7 at unmanned stations. My local station is not "staffed" but there is a small waiting area with restrooms and a Quik-Trak machine that is unlocked for a few hours every morning before the train arrives and is locked...

I have to say that the prices are incredibly consistent on the Silver Star from what I've seen watching them on Amsnag. I haven't compared them to other lines because I don't use them, but I'm always hoping to be able to catch one of the deals that I see mentioned for other lines and so far...

I just picked up Trainz - Ultimate Collection as a jewel case title. I'm not sure how this compares to the 2009 edition, but I was wondering what your thoughts were about the game and what I should expect.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I think the safest thing to do to make sure I make it to my destination is to just keep my butt on the train. :) I've just always wondered about how it worked and never could figure it out from the schedule.

I'm not a smoker, but I've always wondered how to tell which stops along a route are smoking breaks. There has been a time or two that I would like to get off the train and stretch my legs in the fresh air for a few minutes but I never know how to tell. Hopefully the answer isn't "listen for...

Nice trip report. I always enjoy reading about the different stations that I've only rode past without the chance to get out and explore. Now I'm trying to figure out how I can work riding Amtrak into my job duties! ;)
