    Checked Baggage unload in BUR?

I gave the OP originally the suggestion to get off at BUR (1 hour driving time away from Huntington Beach) in his other thread due to the fact that he wanted a rental car, and by the time his train would arrive at LAUS, those rental car offices would be closed. The train station is within...

    RUDE SCA on SWC #4

And on the topic of bedroom usage by SCAs - I've had one trip on the EB where the SCA kept trying to make me move downstairs to H after I remarked to her that bedroom A is slightly smaller than the rest. To quote her: "You can go downstairs to H which is much bigger, I used bedroom A on the...

    RUDE SCA on SWC #4

I've never had issues with the sheets - always have been clean. That being said, however, in all my recent travels in the sleepers, with the exception of one ride in the CS, all the blue blankets that sit on top of the sheets have had hair other than mine on it....i.e. long blonde hairs, etc...

Movie, The Taking of Pelham 123

Hi Alan, In the LA Subway system the controls are on the left-hand side and that's where the driver sits. There are some subways in Europe (could be in other places as well but haven't been everywhere *yet* :) ) where the controls and the driver sit in the center of the cab. Also, on the LA...

    Empire Builder Trip Report

We were on the same train :) I boarded in PDX on the 17th and went to MSP where I got off and boarded the PVs that were attached to our train. There was some very, very rough track in those areas that's for sure.

    Favorite food on Amtrak?

The PPC offers a limited choice menu (usually 2 selections for breakfast, 2 for lunch and 2 for dinner) and if the train is full enough it is not uncommon to have it run out of food there. The menu changes from time to time, here are some of the items I've had there: Breakfast: Fresh fruits...

What wouldn't you pack on your next trip?

I would not bring as many clothes as I thought I'd need initially.

    Efficient Use of Inconvenience Refund

Oh I see... Well, mine was the inconvenience one. So I'll keep my fingers crossed that the other half posts as well. (that's the part where I did an onboard upgrade so I'll have to wait & see.) Those triple points are adding up quickly... :)

    Efficient Use of Inconvenience Refund

I recently used a voucher to pay for my trip and have received credit already for the second part of the trip; the first part has yet to be posted. Are there different types of vouchers of which some allow AGR points and some do not?

    CS Advice for Newbie

YMMV on the upgrade based on what mood the conductor is in, if there is a full moon that night, etc. I recently upgraded to a bedroom for $61

    Favorite food on Amtrak?

Breakfast - usually I go for pancakes, unless I'm on the CS, where I'd go for one of the options in the PPC. Lunch - the salad loaded with everything if I'm not too hungry, or perhaps the curry chicken. Dinner - I'm in love with the Asian spare ribs on the CS yummmm! and also the bison meat...

Dinner in the diner poll question

I am the definition of a "non-morning person" so I tend to have breakfast around last call, as a result pushing my other meal times as late as possible since I have to walk around the train a good couple of times in order to get exercise and make myself hungry :) I have never had a situation...

    CS Advice for Newbie

The new Marriott at LA Live/Downtown is a short cab ride away (5-7 minutes) from LAUS if you're looking for a true 4 star hotel. Also, if you have an iPhone you can install the HotelTonight app and you might get some pretty nice deals - the only catch is that you have to wait until noon on the...

Staying in sleeper a few stops beyond ticket

Could you please elaborate on that loophole, as I was looking at the zone map and the way I read it MKE and CHI are in the same zone.

    getting from CUS to O'Hare

Also, Glenview station as well as CUS are both about the same distance from ORD. (Glenview is 12 miles from ORD and CUS is 17 miles). If you want to take public transportation you have a lot more options out of CUS than Glenview. Now, if the EB is really, really, really late, and you decide to...

    bedrooms

The last few times I've been on the train they were sold out and was stuck with A. I've come to not dislike it as much as before especially since there seems to be more room between the sink and the bed due to the different arrangement in that room and I can move around the room without too much...

    Superliner Bedroom Questions

If you get bedroom A, (the one which is slightly smaller than the other 3 due to the curvature of the car) since the sink & shower are arranged slightly different than on the other bedrooms, you will have more room to pass by when the lower bed is made.

    CUS - ice available?

Not sure about ice at the station but you can definitely get ice onboard.

Riding in style with the Friends of the 261 (Long post)

Yea, I think it has to be some sort of record, I didn't think it was possible, either, but you should've seen the way he drove lol!
