I may have gotten one of the last ones ever at that bucket. My travel is for April 19 on the CZ, and I booked at that price about 3 weeks ago. But you're right.... all I see now is $384 several months out. Interesting.

I got a roomette for $278 on the CZ. That was the lowest I ever saw, so that should be the low bucket.

Thanks Trogdor. I would like to get off and explore a little bit. I would definitely clarify the departure time with the conductor before wandering off too far. I would be sure to be back by 10:30 at the latest. I notice that it's fairly close to Coors Field... anything else worth checking out?

I'll be on the #5 on 4/19. I got the call as well. Regarding the nearly 4 hour stop in Denver - will I be allowed to get off the train and walk around a bit near the station? Or is it recommended that I stay on the train? I have a roomette from CHI to EMY, so I don't have to worry about losing...

I'm looking into the final planning of a USA Rail Pass adventure in April 2012. Two of the LD trains we'd be taking are the California Zephyr and the Empire Builder. We're thinking of biting the bullet and upgrading to a roomette for these 2 segments since they're the longest ones of the trip...

That was my concern too. I remember reading that the Emprie Builder is risky in the early spring. My backup plan is the Zephyr, then Coast Starlight to Los Angeles, Sunset Limited to New Orleans, Crescent to DC, then the rest of the route from there. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
