    Texas Eagle

Bill....A 2 am arrival time is a good possibilty. I know the schedule said a 11:30 pm arrival but I would almost bet you will be at least 1 1/2 hours down and therefore a 1 am arrival.....

    Labor Negotiations soon!!!!!!!!

Just have to kid you a little GG-1, but I believe all strikes are by the employees and not the companies. :D Strikes by employees without the support of the unions or members are called "Wildcat Strikes" and for the most part are always considered illegal. As for poor treatment being the...

    Labor Negotiations soon!!!!!!!!

That's correct PRR60....I was even told by a third level superviser, " don't even think you people are going to come back too work and make up for wages lost during the strike." That lasted two weeks and then we started working 15hr days, seven days a week. :D We hit time and a half on...

    Labor Negotiations soon!!!!!!!!

Sutton, as a 35 year member of a afore mentioned Union,CWA, I can say that what you described is fairly common in most occupations. You have both workers and slackers that unfortunately receive the same benefits and fair wages can't be withheld because of that. I do know that when we received...

Yepper Bill, It's not as well known as "The City of New Orleans" but it's called "The Texas Eagle Way" http://www.texaseagle.com/eagleway.htm

    Texas Eagle

Bill, That area can be desolate in places and boring to some people. I live about 200 miles NE of the town of Pecos. Roy Beans "Jersey Lilly" was located in Langtry and I believe still stands today. This area has many historical landmarks and small museums pertaining to the old West. Oddly, the...

The Pecos is a small river in size but has a big history in Western lore. Judge Roy Bean ( the hanging Judge)set up his court as "The Law West Of the Pecos"

    Here We Go Again

Wow! I stand humbly corrected about the national support for Amtrak. Thanks AlanB for the suggestion of the polls and too AmtrakWPK for the work of finding all those polls to show us. It is still beyond my belief that in today's society that so many of our representatives can ignore the wishes...

I don't think it was an attitude problem and I'm sure with just a little thought it would not be hard to realize I was referring with a little dry humor to what was first reported to be suspicious baggage. With that said it still didn't warrant the obvious slur at my country for which I fought...

Condition of train that goes to Texas

Gingee, I can honestly say that you will not be sitting in a garbage pit. The coach cars are not overly dirty either. Granted, the cars sleepers and coach will not be "hospital" sanitary but I didn't feel like I suddenly needed a shower when I boarded either. You will find some of them to be...

    Here We Go Again

You know Alan, I would be interested to know where and how this survey was conducted. If it was in the NEC or even the large urban areas where passenger rail service is common I would have no doubt. However out in the vast regions of our country that have no rail service close by I would expect...

Better go back and read the previous post of mine before you criticize me or my country. I advocated the removal of their baggage to the middle of a swamp not the passengers. If you have such as dim view of us "Americans" why do you vacation here?

Oh...Ok Alan, I didn't read that part in Jishnu's posting on OTOL. My question is, Did he say why they were opening and closing their bags(if they were)without removing or placing things into them? Was that part just a foul up in reporting? I'm also sorry that innocent people were treated that...

I think I would have asked them to move them somewhere else also. Like to the middle of Okefenokee Swamp. ;)

Condition of train that goes to Texas

Gingee...I rode the Texas Eagle from Austin, Texas to Chicago and back in June. The sleeper we had on the trip up to Chicago wasn't that dirty and needed only the basic sanitizing that you would do in any public venue. Now the lounge car could have been better than it was. It had an faint but...

    packing lists

I agree with PRR60 very much. While some entrées are rather expensive most are quite good. Even the snack bar items seem to be satisfying and some such as the Angus Cheeseburger is better than many fast food chains across the nation. IMHO....stay away from the cod and pork chop.....

Thanks for this information Alan. I had wondered what activity seemed strange and why the train was allowed to depart but leave behind the passengers from the last two cars. Never occured to me that the last two cars were also left behind.
