The Texas Eagle is (or was) running STL to CHI without buses. FWIW - A few days ago I was on a bus bridge between Alton and Springfield, then Illini train on to Chicago. The bus was very nice. It was a pleasant surprise and wouldn't of minded if I had to ride the bus all the way to Chicago.
