Its a great idea to attract business customers. Now amtrak needs to bring the service onboard, maybe offering it exclusively in business/first class. I know amtrak has tried it before with a yahoo partnership, so its probably just the need for investors.

I think it is more likely to pay off if offered to the whole train.
Well if they ever offer it onboard the trains, it will be on the Acelas & Metroliners only, since they carry the bulk of the business customers. On an Acela or Metroliner, offering it to business class & first class, is offering it to the whole train. There is no coach class on those trains.

It probably wouldn't be offered on the Regional trains.

What purpose dose busness class serve on a regional if no one uses it(from the business realm)?

It gives the rider a reserved seat, even on an otherwise unreserved train. It provides wider spaced seating, along with a few other perks.

Do business people use business class on the regionals? Sure. Just like a family may use business class on an Acela. However there are far more business people on an Acela or a Metroliner, than there are on a Regional.

Therefore if Amtrak is going to spend the money to install WiFi on a train, it's going to be on it's premiere or flagship trains, not on the lowly Regionals.
