auto rack carrier doors

I keep seeing some autoracks on the NS route over here that instead of having 2 solid doors per side they have what looks like snow skies making up the door. Are these older models? Also I seen some that had the doors open while moving(empty of coarse.

I believe those are older carriers that have wood doors with the panels being similar to a fence slat to make them easy to change out if one is broken, and cheaper to make than a single solid piece of wood.
