I traveled the Capitol Limited (one of my favorites) leaving WAS Friday afternoon for Cleveland. We left on time and was running close if not on-time until about 20 minutes east of Cumberland. There, with typical CSX intelligence, we sat for near an hour while waiting for three, yes three, eastbound freights to pass. It reminded me of a Lake Shore Limited trip I took right after the Conrail breakup. We sat at a siding for well over an hour while CSX routed three freights past us in the opposite direction.
I travel enough to expect delays because of freight action but sitting for three to pass that close to Cumberland yard seemed a little much.
