Johnny Cash was probably the most famous of all railfans. Many of his songs were about or mentioned trains. "Orange Blossom Special" was one of my favorites.

Anyone else out there care to comment about "the man in black?"

Every time I drive by Folsom Prison I think of him, Johnny Cash was an American icon.

He sang many, many railroad songs. One of the LEAST known, however, was one about the "South Wind". That is relevant for us not only because that was a very neat Chicago to Miami streamliner before Amtrak, but because it survived into Amtrak. Was later re-named the Floridian.

It (the South Wind) went through Nashville so I suppose with his Nashville ties he probably even rode it a few times in years past. Admittedly, however, it is one of his least known songs for whatever reason.
