Here is an article in The Oregonian about Greyhound's cutting some of its routes and some of the smaller towns and communities it serves. While on the surface it may not seem to have anything to do with Amtrak, it may influence funding and politics as to which Amtrak routes and trains may continue to run (or not), especially presently where Amtrak and Greyhound both serve certain cities. When Greyhound leaves, that will leave only Amtrak. What happens if the powers-that-be decide to discontinue the Amtrak routes/trains as well--or how about the Thru-way bus services Amtrak and various states operate and finance? How about people who connect between Amtrak and Greyhound?

There is an interline (Thruway) agreement between Amtrak and Greyhound from Portland to Boise (ID) and cities in between, covering the cities along the former Pioneer route.

It also says something about the profitability(?) of carrying people--not just to small towns but some of the larger ones also. The airlines are suffering, Amtrak, now Greyhound, it costs lots of money to maintain highways and bridges (which are in poor shape). Just how are people to get around? And what about the economic impact of forcing people to stay home rather than travel? What about places and industries that depend upon travel for their livelihood?

This could very well have an influence on Amtrak.
