Several major freight carriers have announced their plans for holiday curtailments, here's a look at CSX's plan (courtesy CSXT.com):

      CSX Holiday Service Plan

December 16, 2003

CSX plans to discontinue through-train operations at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23. Operations are to resume at 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26. During this time, only essential, pre-arranged train service will be conducted. CSX terminals will be closed from 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, until 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26.

CSX will continue to deliver and receive interchange traffic at key gateways in accordance with other carriers' operating plans and crew availability.

Please contact CSX Customer Service at 877-SHIP CSX (877-744-7279) with any questions.

Have a safe and happy holiday.
Hopefully this means our guys can run on time and not get caught behind or for hot shot intermodals or coal trains.

Let's hope O.T. is improved during this period for TWO reasons, !. Being o.t. is a good thing in itself, but 2. the many "new" passengers who might be sampling Amtrak for the first time will be impressed, hopefully. After all the crowding of holidays can itself cause a certain amount of delay sometimes, we don't need the freight roads tieing us up as well.

It is kind of like highway projects taking a break during holiday periods.

It's funny that you mention that. I was dicussing an issue similar to that last Saturday on my way to Orlando. He's slated to work tomorrow and Christmas day, he said the one advantage to it (besides time and a half) is that there will probably not be a single work foreman out there (on a normal weekday there can be 10-12 for Double Track construction).
