This station see six trains a week. Wouldn’t it make sense for both Amtrak and especially passengers if a couple of local people: maybe retirees, maybe even railfans; were willing to open the station on these six weekly occasions and provide some service to passengers? If not ticket sales, even just train status or a place to sit out of the weather? Even if they were paid a nominal wage, two people working nine hours each per week is better for Amtrak and better for passengers than having no agent at all. If the alternative is a union person at union rates and with union benefits, or no agent at all, then there will be no agent at all.

Lafayette needs a Ticket Agent if they want to go this route a lot of passengers want a ticket agent here so does the city. Also Lafayette is a engineer crew change point. The other prob is train #2 can be 14hrs late and Amtrak does not know where the train is at because it is between tower reports which are the aei readers and there are only 4 of them between Houston and Lafayette and these people won't be able to talk with my dispatcher to find out where the train is like a Ticket Agent could hell 90% of the time the engineers don't even know where the train is when they show up. :)
