LSL 7.5 hours late today?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised since it's the Lake Shore Limited, but a couple weeks ago it was 8 minutes early-1.5 hours late with a few 3+ hour late arrivals last week. Amtrak is showing it running 7 hours and 36 mins late in Erie, PA as of this posting headed towards NYP.

What's usually the cause of something this late on the LSL? Rail companies delaying in preference for freight? Running over a pack of moose?

Usually the host railroad. In that case, probablt CSX. Also if i rember correctly, the late shore's route is experiencing track work this summer.

This particular delay was caused by a freight train striking a trespasser (a fatality) and the subsequent delay of the freight train. The line was blocked and the LSL couldn't get through until the police investigation was completed and the freight train moved out of the way.

There have been a few reports on Trainorders that the breaks didn't release properly on a couple of the roadrailers. Thus created a hot box and had to be set off.
