In july I will be taking the train from NYP to Montreal-I was on it a couple of years ago while they were doing construction and it was quite late as a result. How is the on-time performance? Should I bring food as we ran out on the way back and the person in the lounge car seemed to delight in making people guess what he had-please let me know. <_<

Jeff,

First off you can check the train status at Amtrak's status page located here.

However past performance is no indicator that your train will indeed be on time or delayed. I do recall reading a report somewhere, although at the moment I can't recall where I saw it, that some track work was being done north of Albany in the coming months. If I can find it again, I'll update you.

As for food, be careful what you bring if you do decide to bring any food. Make sure that you don't bring any fresh fruit or vegtables, as they won't let you carry them over the boarder. Best to pack sealed bags, pop-top cans, and things like that.
