Downtown train service still on track;  Amtrak and city aiming for AprilPassenger trains could be stopping once again at Main Street Station in about five months.

The first phase of the $48.2 million renovation of the station in downtown Richmond is expected to be wrapped up in March.
Entire story is here.

To sum up the article, the staggered opening schedule is now as follows:

April 2003: All Newport News trains (66, 67, 78, 83, 94, 95, 99, 194). They will use the ex-C&O side of the platform.

Sometime in 2005: All trains that now originate/terminate at Richmond (82, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 93, 195). These will use a temporary track at the station.

Sometime in 2007 or after: All other trains to Florida & North Carolina that now serve Richmond (79, 80, 89, 90, 91, 92, 97, 98). This is dependent on the rebilding of the ex-SAL subdivision between the Main Street Station and where the line now used rejoins it south of the city.

Auto Train (52, 53) will not run through Main Street Station but will continue to bypass downtown Richmond on the current route now followed by all Florida & North Carolina trains.

Station code for Richmond-Staples Mill will remain RVR, and the Richmond-Main Street will be RVM.

I am pretty sure the Staples Mill station will live on, even when Main Street is in full use. Staples Mill will continue to be the suburban Henrico County station is has been for years. It is located north of the Acca Yard/interlocking where the track to downtown and the bypass track split.

It sounds like we're talking about here.
