SAGINAW -- Skip Waters' pulse quickens every time he gets stuck behind a train. 

He'd never dream of turning around and finding an alternate route.

 

And the longer the wait, the better.

 

"I love getting stuck at the front of the line at railroad crossings," said Waters, 47, of Dallas. "You feel the wind blow against you and the power roaring by. It is a really dramatic experience."

 

Waters is a "railfan" -- a train enthusiast whose pastimes include watching, recording or photographing trains. His hobby has taken him to the country's distant corners, but Waters and hundreds like him have found a little slice of railfan heaven in Saginaw, a blue-collar town with a rich railroad history.
