Just found out I need to be in Houston TX 1/31/04. Any Sugestions on trip rout and sale/cost

Well only the Sunset Limited serves Houston, so you can take that train direct from Los Angeles. The last eastbound train was only around two hours late through Houston, so there could be hope for a "reasonable" arrival time. The Houston station is literally on the outskirts of the downtown area, just a stone's throw away from the skyscrapers of the business district.
