(courtesy el simon) - In addition to the 2 superliners recently released, the following stored-damaged cars have been upgraded to active-repair status, so possibly look for them to be the next cars released. - Dorm 39044 (Marshall TX 9/01), sleepers 32016 & 32065 (Lissie TX 7/99) & 32019 (St Louis 7/01), diner 38054 (Auto Train), lounge 33045 and coaches 34018 & 34053 (Kensington MD 7/02). - Sadly, Amtrak has stricken from the roster previously stored-damaged cars smoker 31522 and coaches 34070 & 34071 (Nodaway IA 3/01) and coach 34076 (Kingman AZ 8/97). - Additionally, (courtesy Sean Gilliam) although listed as stored-damaged, sleeper 32100, and coaches 34125 and 34126 from Auto Train were in fact scrapped at Sanford. - This leaves still stored-damaged 6 dorms, 10 sleepers, 9 diners, 6 lounges, and 16 coaches - 47 total of which a good number are not repairable.

The interior conditions are part of the reason for the scrap of all three. But a bent frame or even cracked frame might be part of the cause also. I will try to find out the exact reasoning behind the scrapping of these cars.

Well I would think $1.5 million on repairing a car would be much better than about $3.5 million for a brand new car. Cracks and frame damage can be fixed, and a new interior can be built. The only reason I would think a car would be scrapped if it was "smushed" or in a "knot". Those cars are even on the rails!

32100 and 34126 have had their trucks removed. While the cars are indeed on top of rails they are not on rails anymore. If you look closely 32100 is sitting ontop of a piece of wood (used as a jack) to keep it from hitting the ground when the truckes were removed. I believe 34125 has been moved over by 34126 and 32100 to its final resting spot. I will find out for sure about 34125 this weekend.
