I'm taking my first trip next Monday - San Diego To Santa Barbara

Any comments on the Surfliner?

I'm thinking about getting the California Rail Card Pass - is it worth it? $159

Can you get off & on where ever you want?

Here's the details from Amtrak's California Rail Pass.

It qualifies for riding 7 days on train out of 21 days.

Yes, you can get off whereever you want within California, providing that you reserve the tickets on specific days and specific times on specific trains/buses. Almost all trains are reserved seat, so you'll have to get tickets.

Is it worth it? You'll have to compare the price between the CA Rail Pass and train fare that you're planning to ride on.
