Looking forward on the weekend of 5/26-5/28 to a get-a-way to East Texas to ride the Texas State RailRoad STEAM TRAINS that run from Palestine,Tx-Rusk,Tx.and vice versa! (it's a state park-TexasStateRailrRoad.com). The next three weekends they have the Dogwood Festival as they are in bloom (it's Spring down here! :) )and the Piney Woods and running streams (we call them creeks!)are part of the old prison/lumber line that has been used in so many movies,TV shows and featured in stories in mags and books! There is a meet half way through the run with another steamer, these are only used for special runs, the rest of the time diesel power is used which is not the same IMO. The bad news is NO AGR/Bonus points! :(

It's not cheap (The State of Texas contracted out the Railroad Operation a few years ago under a budget crunch) but considering that lunches and tickets are included $100 is not bad! (well, some "normal people would be SHOCKED!SHOCKED! that Id waste money on a train ride! :D )The motels in East Texas are fairly cheap, even during special events and there is lots to see in this basically unknown area of Texas between Houston and Dallas. If youre ever in East Texas it beats the heck out of going to the Casinos in LA IMO!I'm excited, my girlfriend says it'll be fun! ;)

BTW-I see from Whoozs posting that the Angel Flight Tram is starting back up, it's been on my bucket list for a long time, guess I'll be FORCED to make a trip to LAX to ride it!
