Will Tropical Storm Debby cause a change in schedule on Monday from Atlanta to New Orleans?

Is it possible to change the dates of a trip from Atlanta to New Orleans without a change fee? We're worried about the storm.

Probably not for Monday. They don't expect it to make landfall until Friday, however they do expect it to skirt the Gulf Coast between MS and TX. I live about 60 miles north of the coastline, and I'm in the "cone". Will keep my fingers crossed! Right now the storm is moving in a northerly direction.

Amtrak in general does not have a change fee. You have to pay the current bucket fare on the alternate day, unless Amtrak decides to make a special dispensation. The current bucket fare on the alternate day could be the same as your current fare or higher or lower. It all depends, and one can only guess what it will be by trying to simply book a ticket on the other day upto the point where the fare is presented.

Trying to get home to Baton Rouge on the Crescent 19 on Friday. Should I try to get from Philly earlier or just sit tight. Sometimes theses things just fizzle out, I don't know. Anybody in Baton Rouge or NO to give me local update. Would y'all just wait and see if trains are gonna run?

For what it is worth, I am in Orlando and we are getting lots of rain, but not a lot of wind. However, there are tornado warnings in Polk County, which is about an hour to the west of us.

I live in the Tampa Bay area. We are getting tons of Rain & Strong Wind! The reports we're getting is that they dont know where its going! Supposed to linger over us for a couple of days!

Guys, stop.

Should reach the FL Panhandle near Panama City Mon night/Tue.

By Friday it'll be a rainy memory.

Not strong enough to cancel anything but an offshore bubble wrap boat race.

Don't be too sure. If it moves east across northern Florida/southern Georgia, we may see some heavy delays, if not disruptions of the Silvers, Auto Train and maybe Palmetto (though the Palmetto may be too far north). This storm's forecast is still in flux. Some of the computer models put it on the National Hurricane Center track toward New Orleans, while others push it across Florida and Georgia. Some parts of Florida have already received large amounts of rainfall and this is well before landfall. Frankly, I personally would be leery of any travel plans from Houston all the way over to Savannah and down into Florida. Unlike most other tropical systems I've tracked over the years where the "cone of uncertainty" at least points to a general region, Debby's track could be as far west as Houston, or as far east as landfall in Apalachee Bay, then going overland to Savannah, it's just too soon to tell. But I'm NOT saying people should cancel anything yet, just to be cautious at this point and start thinking about backup plans should they be necessary.

The 5PM update is out:

Bottom line is there's still no telling where Debby is going to end up, but she isn't going anywhere fast.

Latest advisory, per Orlando tv news station, is that Debby is heading North towards Panama City, Florida very slowly and will be dumping loads of rain on Florida, including Central Florida, where I am located. Of course, that prediction could change in the next few hours or days.

Another news update... due to 70 mph winds in the Tampa Area, they have closed the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. My guess is that tonight's Silver Star (92) will be running very late (even later than it is running now).

It has rained light to moderate pretty much the entire day (Sun 6/24) here in South Georgia. I am about 40 miles north of Tallahassee. Very little wind however. Looks like the rain is here for awhile!

Well, you guys need the rain! Hopefully, it will recharge the aquifers (and the Suwanee and Withlacoochie Rivers) that feed the Florida springs I like to dive! :D

Rain and a little wind won't slow trains much.
It is a bit worse than rain and a little wind here in Florida. There are tornado warnings in almost every county in Central Florida, including those in which the Silver Star is traveling tonight.

Not so. If a flood warning is issued anywhere in a given county, NS will require all trains (including Amtrak) to run at restricted speed throughout the entire county. This has led to enormous delays in the past.

We just got our power back after losing it for 12 hours; went out right in the middle of the Mets/Yankees game! Thanks, Debby, now go do someone else.

I heard on the local news that Marion County had more power outages than any other Central Florida county. We did not lose power at all, but did lose satellite tv for a short while last night. It has temporarily stopped raining here, but it looks like it will start again any minute. Stay safe and dry.
