How many stations have same code as the airport? (like LAX)

Amtrak's Los Angeles station(LAX) has the same code as the city's main airport, LAX.

How many other Amtrak stations have the exact same code as the city's airport?

CHI and WAS don't count, because those cities have airports with different names.(ORD/MDW, IAD/DCA)

A few I can think of off the top of my head:

MSP, FAR, SLC, OMA, GFK, DEN, MKE (that one's interesting...the downtown station matches the airport, but the airport station does not...the airport station is MKA.)

I'm sure there's a lot more, but there's a few.

I may be wrong about BNW. It may be an NJT invention. NJT actually does have three letter codes for all its stations these days it seems. It appears on NJT tickets these day in the way of route designation, as do codes of various other stations.

And IINM Austin's Airport Code is ABI= Austin Bergstrom international.(and it's Located in Del Valle, not Austin) The Amtrak Station is AUS!!!

No, you are mistaken. Although Austin Airport may like to refer to themselves as ABI (like Denver likes to call itself DIA), the official IATA code for Austin is AUS.

How about places that aren't but would seem like they should be the same as the IATA code?

Amtrak doesn't use an OAK code at all for Oakland, even though the OAC station essentially service the airport (shuttle is a short walk). I would have thought maybe Hayward, California, but HWD is the airport code and HAY is the Amtrak code. They've got 7 bus stops in San Francisco, but none are SFO.

As for others in California or Nevada, there are a lot of regional and/or general aviation airports. Not all have IATA or FAA identifiers though.

SAN for San Diego Lindbergh Field and the San Diego station.

MRY works for Monterey Regional Airport and the downtown Monterey transit plaza bus stop.

SNS is the same for Salinas Municipal Airport and the train station.

RNO is used for Reno-Tahoe International Airport as well as the downtown Amtrak station.

LAS is used for McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas as well as the Amtrak bus stop at the airport.

SNA is for John Wayne/Orange County Airport as well as the Santa Ana Amtrak station.

BUR for Bob Hope Airport in Burbank as well as the Burbank Amtrak station.

MOD for Modesto City-County Airport and the Amtrak station.

RDD for Redding Municipal Airport and the Amtrak station.

CIC for Chico Municipal Airport and the Amtrak station.

SBA in Santa Barbara.

There are a lot of small airports around the country in places that have Amtrak stations and/or bus stops. Amtrak doesn't always choose a code that matches the IATA or FAA identifier, but it happens a lot. Often Amtrak picked a code that made the most sense, like SLO for San Luis Obispo even though it's used as an airport identifier for Salem-Leckrone Airport in Salem, Illinois. I don't know if anyone can be exhaustive without spending at least a day looking up airport codes.

DIA has the IATA and FAA identfier DEN. Same as the Denver Amtrak station.

I'm not sure if Albany International (yeah, that's the official name now) is in Latham or Colonie. I know you get off the Northway in Colonie. Either way, it's right on the border.

FYI - For years, before they used the connecting track into downtown Schenectady, Amtrak trains stopped in Colonie and considered that the Schenectady stop. It was miles away from Schenectady - but not as far as Maricopa is to Phoenix.

At least Amtrak doesn't use FAT for Fresno, CA - like the airport!

Non train related: I've always wondered why the New England Patriots are considered a Boston team? They play in Foxboro, which is actually closer to Providence. Also, most of the teams fly into and stay in Providence.

:hi: Thanks for the Correct Info! Ive flown exactly once out of the "New" Aiport here so am behind the Curve on this! (some of the Travel Sites on the Web do use ABI as the Austin Airport Identifier Code but they are not Offcial): Austin the Pretenious Does refer to the Airport as ABI even though there are currently Zero International Flights there! Perhaps they are trying too hard to become the "Happening/Hip City" that they wish we were! :giggle:

And the Dallas Cowboys play in Jerry World (Now At&T Stadium!!! )in Arlington where they moved to from Irving, they havent been the Dallas Cowboys since the early 1970s when the Long Gone Texas Stadium was opened!

There are also the Detroit Pistons (NBA) that play in the Palace @ Auburn Hills but The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (Baseball) Take the Cake, trying to have their Cake and eat it too!
