The Meteor is stopped approximately 15 miles south of Palatka - tree down on track. There have been severe storms in area.

We are told Amtrak personnel are on the scene and working to clear the track.

More likely CSX MOW.
You were right! They just advised that they are awaiting further word from CSX on the progress on the tree removal.

On the way again at 5:07 pm. Never saw any sign of the tree or remnants.
Simple delayed for track inspection maybe, or may of been a concern for a twister. Very strong storms south of I-10.

Would not be the first time someone make a announcement that cover the delay, but less than factual so not to cause a panic.

There was a severe storm and we saw no evidence of a tree down so the Conductor may have engaged in disinformation.

When 97 passed through Palatka this morning, it was storming pretty hard. Water was dripping into the vestibules.

I experienced "water dripping into the vestibules" on the 83 Northeast Regional between BAL and NPN last year (June). That was while some pretty hefty storms were moving eastward across Virginia.

Sitting just short of Jacksonville and the Auto Train just passed us!
You might be into what I call "loco non grata". You are so late, they have all given up on you. The Auto Train passed you because there was enough hope it could still arrive on time.
According to the trak a train, 98 has over taken 52 again.
When they are that close, it is possible for them to pass multiple times as the Auto Train can only reach 70 MPH but also does not need to make any intermediate stops (except Florence). It essentially behaves as a freight train, and I have been on Amtrak trains that passed a freight train moving in the same direction 3-4 times.

Said serious storm caused us to be stuck in a holding pattern over Orlando for 40 minutes on a flight from Washington Dulles to Orlando Sunday afternoon too.
