Our journey continues. We’re past Hammond now, the next (scheduled) stop is New Orleans. We’re underway but with no electrical power so no AC, no charging devices and the toilets don’t flush. At least we’re moving.
We made up a little time and got pizza brought on board in Greenwood, Miss. Never got an explanation of why we had to do the whole train switcheroo.
Now we’re stuck in Arcola, LA with an electrical problem with the engine and we’ve been here about an hour. Remember, this is our second engine of...
Best answer I’ve heard yet. Once things settle down on board, I’ll ask.
That would make sense, hoping you’re right!
The conductor said the 59 engine, the first one, leaked 40-50 gallons of oil.
Right, @AmtrakBlue we just got on the old 58 train. Still unanswered is why we couldn’t just swap engines. Now sleeper pax are in the observation car so compartments can be remade. Hopefully we’re provisioned for breakfast. At least there’s coffee. And 58’s pax are now standing around waiting to...
Maybe but if just swapping consists why did we all have to get off to change trains? It’s all a mystery right now.
Apparently the 58 train will become the 59 and vice versa. Just heard that.
The 58 train is stopped just south of us. There is an engine to move our train off the platform for the 58 train to arrive. I think we’re going to swap trains but I couldn’t hear everything the conductor said. There was no proper announcement, just him shouting to a few folks on the platform.
The 59 train, City of New Orleans is stuck in Carbondale. We left on time Sunday, 10/22, but were woken up in Carbondale at 4:00am with an announcement that there was an unrepairable problem with the engine and we all needed to get off the train because they were going to bring a whole new train...
Also got the Acela in Boston one other time. Our flight from Portland, ME to DC was cancelled so we took the bus to South Station and just made the Acela. There was an older couple at the table next to us that *everyone* seemed to know; everyone but us. They had their flight cancelled, too. We...
We were on the Acela a few years ago, from Boston to New York. My wife and I are at a table for two. After a short while on the train, she says the guy at the four-top table a few rows back and across the aisle…who do you think that is? I turned for a quick look. An older gentleman with his wife...
We just got home from our “Triangle Train Trip” which was Chicago-Denver-San Francisco-Seattle-Glacier NP-Chicago. We found the food to be good to excellent on all the trains. The steak at dinner in particular was excellent.
The service was good to very good, although sometimes just shy of slow...
I’m in the Emeryville station now. The 14 train was already running nearly two hours late due to freight traffic. Then it hit a car near San Jose, according to the station staff here. I don’t have any other details.
And the station here is loud sincesome sort of flooring work is going on now...
We ended up taking the bus as scheduled. It arrived early so we got on and waited.
Now still at Emeryville with no ETA for the CS since it apparently hit car near San Jose. It was already two hours late. And the station here is under construction and the only bathrooms are porta-potties outside...
