Questions on planning a trip taking us to and through Boston

Very simple the Silver Line buses are way too small, they get jammed packed, and can get caught in traffic, just like the Logan Express buses. Getting to the Blue Line may take a transfer, but it will get you to the airport faster, and I will add just don't take any form of transit to the...

Questions on planning a trip taking us to and through Boston

The following is my Boston Guide, I put this together, as these questions come up on a regular basis. Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000177 EndHTML:0000008672 StartFragment:0000002574 EndFragment:0000008636 SourceURL:file://localhost/Users/voxmini/Desktop/Boston%20Guide%20.doc OK, after reading all...

NY Penn to JFK ~ Subway or LIRR?

Macy's had (2) good full service restaurants, about as close to NY Penn as you can get, Rowlands Pub in the basement, and Stella 34 on the 6th floor. https://www.patinagroup.com/rowlands/menu https://www.patinagroup.com/stella-34 Ken

NY Penn to JFK ~ Subway or LIRR?

If you have more luggage than your last trip, I would use the LIRR since those trains have luggage racks. Avoid using the LIRR during weekday rush hours as those trains will be packed to the gills, and make sure you can move and stow your luggage on your own. Ken

    BOS or BBY Boston stations

Hotels in Boston tend run on the expensive side, year round, and rates do spike further in warm weather. There are some good hotels in the financial district that MAY offer better rates than the hotels directly on the water, and you would still be near the Long Wharf where Boston Harbor Cruises...

    BOS or BBY Boston stations

If your looking for a hotel on, or near the water The Marriott Long Wharf is a good choice, and Aquarium T station (Blue Line) is right at it's door. That said the Battery Wharf is a beautiful hotel, so if you do not mind taking a cab, Uber, or Lyft to get there you'll enjoy it. Your ticket is...

    Toronto

I would recommend calling VIA at 1 (888) 842-7245. They can help you with details on a short turn trip from Toronto, as well as details on the equipment that different trains normally use. The Great Hall at Toronto Union Station is undergoing a major restoration, I don't know how much will be...

Is CONO food still just microwave?

There are some significant differences with how VIA Rail provides diner service. Yes, the Canadian is the only train with a traditional, food cooked to order, diner YEAR ROUND. During the summer peak the Canadian also has a coach class diner with food prepared and cooked on board, the...

Ice Cream Replaced With Warm Date Pudding?

Be happy with what you have on the trains with a full diner. For The Cardinal and and CONO, are limited to a few 7/11 type choices (and the pudding). DESSERTS Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Big & Fudgy Chocolate Brownie Chewy Marshmallow Bar Vanilla Pudding

    New menu items

What your seeing there looks like special Silver Star Cafe Car Menu. After the diner was pulled from the Star, they offered the regular cafe car menu for a bit and then added some heat and eat entrees to the mix. https://cmsstage.amtrak.com/ccurl/295/142/Silver-Star-Cafe-Menu-0406.pdf Ken

    Penn Station Food

Another good option for food is Macy's, just across the street from Penn Station. Their restaurants are run by a 3rd party, so you will not have flashbacks of being dragged downtown by your Auntie and forced to eat tea sandwiches. They have a pub in the basement (Rowlands) and an upmarket...

Commuting Newark to New York City on Amtrak?

I would check with Amtrak on this. Back when I lived in NJ, Amtrak trains heading to NY Penn, that were discharge only, made the point very clear with the conductors barking out NO PASSENGERS. Sometimes, and I mean just that sometimes, Amtrak trains that were discharge only would call at...
