They re-did almost all of the crossings in Miami-Dade / Broward. Some didn't get quad gates because the speed in those sections were already below 80mph due to curve restrictions nearby.
(edit: but that might change due to public pressure because people can't stop getting hit by the trains.)

By the fact it's an intra-state (only goes through 1 state) service, the federal government is unwilling to throw money at it in any meaningful way to get the project rolling to a pace that it can actually meet it's timelines. California, not without it's own budget woes and with a flatlining...

The issue with solar on any traveled surface is dust and vibration, which of course railways have lots of... Also, connecting the power over long distances etc. It's a good idea that will never work.
CA HSR is in major, major funding trouble. The whole Phase 1 is $106b, and have only identified about $20b of funding. Even the initial initial operating segment is $8-10b short.
Brightline West says the whole Vegas/RC route is around $12b, they need $3.5B of FSP federal funding to accomplish...
Hi, live in Fargo, ND here. I think our town is representative of a lot of mid-sized (50k-250k) (Fargo is on the upper end at 250k) LD towns. People don't use LD service because of the reasons we all know about.
