    Amtrak Cascades F59PHI's

Actually there is at least one P42 in service on the Cascades right now, possibly two. Since Charger 1402 was wrecked, it's likely we'll have P42s on Cascades until when/if a replacement is built.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

It's likely the 1402 was likely scrapped. I can't imagine Amtrak or WSDOT would go through the effort of moving it all the way to Sacramento. The Talgo set was also scrapped and removed from the storage area at JBLM. Also relevant to this thread, WDTX 1405 suffered some sort of issue yesterday...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Two of the WSDOT units, 1400 and 1404, are out of service after incidents this week. 1404 hit a car, and 1400 was damaged by a trespasser in the Amtrak Seattle coach yard.

    F-59 retirements and sightings

All of the Cascades F59PHis seem to be Amtrak owned. If they were state owned, they'd probably have state logos like the Talgo sets.

    F-59 retirements and sightings

Does anyone know if Amtrak 465 is back on the Cascades yet? Apparently it came back West a couple of weeks ago.

    F-59 retirements and sightings

The current situation with Cascades F59s is a little weird. 465 should be in Seattle now, having just completed a rebuild at Beech Grove including fresh paint. 466 hit a tree and was sent south to California. 467 is still out of service after the derailment in May. 468 and 469 are in service...

    Surfliner/Phase V F40PH Videos

It might be possible to find very recent video of one in service. The Music City Star in Nashville still has one in this scheme which was never painted after Amtrak sold it.

    Galesburg Museum

Sounds like a BNSF Track Geometry train.

Does current California Zephyr have any similarities to the orginal?

On occasion the train (as well as other Amtrak trains) will have a set of two or three former California Zephyr which are now privately owned. Might be a possible route to go for additional content.

    Cascades Train Derailment - 07/02/17

Thanks for the info. Interesting that Oregon didn't order any spare cars. I assume we'll see a set of Superliner cars in use for a while.

    Cascades Train Derailment - 07/02/17

While there are a limited number of spares for the original Talgo sets, I don't believe any exsist for the Talgo 8 sets. I wonder if the bridge had a mechanical issue. I occasionally listen to the BNSF Seattle Sub scanner, and I've heard slow orders over the bridge many times as well as...

    RailCamp

It's a fairly easy process. I don't know of any specific things they look for, but there is a short essay. I'd suggest keeping some references in mind for when you apply. I believe they want two to be teachers. There is a short essay involved, but it doesn't need to be too long or elaborate...

    RailCamp

I went to the Tacoma one last year, and it was absolutely awesome! Amtrak was just one day, and all six (vs. the five for East) were awesome, and may or may not include throttle time on a steam locomotive ;) The volunteers are great. If you have any general questions, I'll try to answer them...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Here's a video I put together of the rollout. Seemed to have a decent crowd, but the locomotives themselves appeared to not be running. https://youtu.be/DSml1gFa4mQ

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

I believe they are only sending 4611. I was surprised as well.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Surprised no one posted about it, but IDOT 4611 is almost to Seattle on #14 now. I'm hoping to catch a test train when they start running.

Amtrak 406 and the Snow Train

Does anyone know why NPCU #406 is/was in Oakland? Could it possibly end up on 14 and then on the Leavenworth Snow Train? Has anyo heard of a heritage unit going on the Snow Train this year, or will it have just normal P42s like last year? Thanks, Aaron

    Cascade route change?

From what I've heard, I think it will stay single track for part of it (I think south of Lakewood), at least for know. I know that some crossings near Lakewood are double tracked.

    No more F59's on cascades

There are six F59PHis in Cascades service (when all are operating and are not in for maintenance) and eight talgo sets. Two have to operate with P42DCs. Chances are you just happened to get the sets running with P42s.
