    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

I take city streets, one signed as a state highway to get groceries. They are full of potholes as I write. I will look into how much Washington sends the City of Milwaukee to maintain her streets and alleys. I can already guess the answer - $0 or nearly $0. Reread my post, I said the state...

    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

I guess I am not done. Most on this board are very fiscally liberal. Being fiscally liberal IMHO equates to a centrally planned nanny-state. That to me is communism. I apologize if you take offense to that equation, it was a generalization written out of frustration. Every Obama supporter...

    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

Here is where we part ways. I have read Karl Marx and agree in theory, how could you not agree with this in theory. Greed and corruption are not considered, though, and so the centralized socialist system is doomed form the start. Socialism in the future may work - ala Star Trek Next Generation...

    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

Ah, one of those constructive "love it or leave it" responses. I am used to these. FWIW we don't belong in Iraq, where we are in fact building airports, bridges and pothole-free roads. I was thinking more like Ireland or Mauritius. I feel that I am a customer of the United States. I pay taxes...

    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

I agree with everything you have said here, except that John McCain is the WORST candidate they have fielded - worse than Viagra Dole, and I disagree that Obama can save us. I've been pulling for Ron Paul, which everyone seems to minimize as a kook thanks to the media that everyone trusts so...

    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

Well here is one that made me post: If this means no more of the "Zero Funding" of the past, he's got my vote! Perhaps I am taking my frustration with the sheeple of this country a little far on this board, but there are bigger things to worry about in a President than his/her stance on the...

    Obama Specifically Supports Amtrak

It saddens me to come on here and see all of you single-issue voters. I love pax rail just as much as everyone else here, but we cannot afford much of any of the "change" Mr. Obama talks about. So, he's all about Amtrak. That and providing crappy government health care to everyone are the only...

    CZ service disruption

Statistically speaking, you're right Alan. I am going from recent personal experience which I admit is not statistical or scientific. There were empty seats near me available both days a few weeks ago on the EB to SEA including the one next to me, the CS had plenty of open coach I was told (as...

TSA baggage inspections starting at NY State Amtrak stations

Everydaymatters, maybe you would feel differently about the TSA of you had talked to some of the people I met on the 8,900 rail miles I have traveled since Christmas. One notable rider was a 3rd-generation American who was brown in color, Indonesian descent IIRC. He no longer relished having...

    CZ service disruption

Thing is, Ms. Guest, I do like it and enjoy the experience. I like model trains too, all of my Marklin crap was pulled out of their boxes after my Christmas Amtrak journey and is still laying all over the basement workbench. I don't know if you noticed, but there already is plenty of room on...

    CZ service disruption

Amtrak's lack of communication to its passengers other than through last minute phone calls really puts a bad taste in my mouth. According to some dweeb that spoke to me during lunch at last weeks NARP meeting in Chicago the problem is that they would need to add a manager to post these things...

Fire collapses portion of railroad trestle in Sacramento

I'll tell you why they're on time at those stops: bustituting. Got the call about 5pm, they are starting/ending at Roseville and bussing to stations west. It's a good move, was not looking forward to the additional detour delay... although I did want to see the emergency connection track work...

Spot the Engine -- Western Trains 3/17

In the spirit of giving that I am in, I will donate a prize of one pack of Amtrak postcards to the winner, purchased on board an actual Amtrak train, including postage. Photo proof is required. Of course I will disqualify myself from the contest, even though I will be passing #5 tomorrow aboard...

Fire collapses portion of railroad trestle in Sacramento

On at same time here I see. Alan is right: It's likely not up to I.T. to post these, and it may be a Marketing decision. It boils down to delivering information that their customers sorely need. Airlines keep passengers in the dark, but they can get me to Seattle in only a couple hours. It...

Fire collapses portion of railroad trestle in Sacramento

I can't contain mayself any longer and I am not waiting for Alan's response. Amtrak.com --> SHODDY! Nate (now fantasizing if there is a way to take over Amtrak I.T. in a "coup d' etat")

Received survey call about Digi-Player on Coast Starlight

My thoughts on the DigiPlayer, coming from a person in the tech industry (I have not personally rented one but did play with one for an hour that another coach passenger had rented on my EB trip in January): The device is not bad for what it is. User interface was decent, selection was okay...

Fire collapses portion of railroad trestle in Sacramento

Thanks for the links, Alan, but how did you navigate to these? Not wanting to come off arrogant here, but I am a very proficient I.T. guy and I do not see a way to get to these Alerts from the home page. What steps do you take to get to the Service Alerts when starting at the Amtrak.com home...

    Coast Starlight, coach- electrical outlets?

At least one coach on Coast Starlight #11 (3/16/2007) had power at each seat.

Fire collapses portion of railroad trestle in Sacramento

Calling passengers is very labor intensive, and I wouldn't expect Amtrak to do something like that. I've never received a call from an airline for a delayed or cancelled flight, ever. Amtrak.com is a powerful tool that is being underutilized. The CZ reroute deserves at least a "Service Alert"...
