    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Use archive dot ph to get pass paywalls Also glad they are phasing them out. There are certain areas on train paths where web service is non-existent. Plus for some, it's easier to read print on paper vs on a screen

Question about Baggage Policy on Amtrak

Yes, I read it. It says laptops but no mention of bags. I just wanted clarification on that part . Sometimes I don't get the implied part I will! LOL Thank goodness for that cause I've carried a huge duffle to and from college before without issue (and the thing is nearly as tall as I am...

Question about Baggage Policy on Amtrak

I'll be boarding at a station (POU) this weekend for holiday and it doesn't do checked baggage to where I'm going. I know there's a 2 bag limit. I'll be carrying with me a backpack and a suitcase that's not too bulky. I also want to bring along my laptop bag. This might be a dumb question but...

What do you do with your valuables?

Wow, that's just nuts. At least she didn't hurt anyone.

What do you do with your valuables?

That was a very interesting story. I laughed at the "WHERE'S THE MOTORCYCLE MAN?" part (I pictured Jack Nicholson/The Shining for some reason) Sounded like that female PAX might have been on something or a lot of somethings. (OT: Also you sound like a professional narrator for a movie or a book.)

    Best Station for a Layover

I go out of SYR all the time for school. Sometimes it gets really crowded during school breaks (loads of students coming to and from Syracuse and Oswego use the station) and because a lot of Mennonites travel to and from on the buses. (It's kind of spectacle to watch all of them just standing...

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

Ah, ok. I was only curious. I'm not one to worry over a bad 5%

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

Oh yeah, I understand that's the room price. My companion wouldn't be able to afford to split it. (I already bought my tickets since I hit a lucky break and got the coach fare for real cheap) Thank you. What was 5% that wasn't fun? I'll be boarding out of Poughkeepsie. I won't be able to board...

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

I've actually been thinking about getting a sleeper. Don't know if I'll get one for LSL since it's only 17 hours (well supposedly but even I know trains can be late). I've survived an 18 hour flight overseas on a plane four times before, I'm sure I can with a train (although that tip looks...

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

Sweet. I'm planning to do that. Definitely bringing a computer and camera. I rarely use my phone so that won't be a problem (I'm not a fan of cell phones, I just carry it for emergencies). Ooh! That's a good idea. Thank you for that! I'm a chick. Oh really? Heh, that's awesome. I'm planning...

    First train trip...getting nervous

I get carsickness easily but I've never had any problems on a train on all my rides (and that includes reading books or a paper.) If you're still nervous about it just bring along some carsickness pills (forget the name but you know the kind they sell at any type of rite-aid or pharmacy store)...

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

I have to pack a lot because I will be gone for 2 weeks. Ok, cool. I will keep in mind of that. Probably won't use an eye mask or ear plugs (I'm a deep sleeper) but thanks for the info about the washcloth and baby wipes. I'll make sure to bring those I'm very excited about that part. I love...

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

Thanks for that. I will be carrying only a couple bags. Nothing too crazy (I've personally witnessed the hassle of carrying too many big bags. No thank you) Is a duffle bag fine? I'm planning to bring that with me (I've brought it with me on short trips and have had no troubles whatsoever from...

Asking for advice and a question about long distance trips

Hello all, this is my first time posting on this board, not my first time riding Amtrak. Been using them for four years to travel back forth from home to college and vice versa. This year I will be journeying out to CA to see some friends in July. I will be going from NY to Chicago (Lake Shore...
