Odd delay on #6 east of DEN (12/17/19)

Finally started to roll about 10 minutes ago. Looks to be for good this time, knock on wood.

Odd delay on #6 east of DEN (12/17/19)

I am on the eastbound CZ (#6) just east of Denver and about an hour? ago we suddenly stopped, with an announcement that they were looking into a mechanical issue and had to reboot the computers and check the brakes. Power went out fairly briefly, within 15-20 minutes we were rolling again. Then...

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

Does anyone know if these two are in revenue service now, or still being worked on in Hialeah?

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

Ah, so I missed em yesterday. Too bad... I live about a 15 minute walk from what would have been an ideal photo spot in upper Manhattan. What time of day did they pass through? In a week I'm moving to Charlotte NC in any case. By coincidence my new place is VERY close (like 2 minute walk) to...

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

I mean generally via what cities though? Am I remembering right that they go to Albany, and then down the Empire corridor? (I don't know where all the freight rail divisions are that you mentioned.) And at what time roughly? The reason I'm asking is that I live very close to the Empire...

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

What tracks/trains are used to bring them from Elmira to New York City for the trip south?

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

So did this actually happen? I don't see any photos or video on the internet... though I may just not know where to look...

Why different end-to-end travel time in opposite directions?

@railiner: Yes, that also makes a lot of sense. ^^ Though, actually 48 has departed Chicago on time almost every time I've taken it, so I guess I'm lucky. @Anderson: Also sounds reasonable - the schedule backs that up too, they budget 2h40m for 48 to get from Utica to Albany, but only 1h43m...

Why different end-to-end travel time in opposite directions?

OK, that makes sense... does most of the freight traffic along the LSL route also flow westbound?

Why different end-to-end travel time in opposite directions?

Yeah I know about padding... but why is there almost an hour *more* of padding in one direction than the other? That's what I don't get...

Why different end-to-end travel time in opposite directions?

Hey all - I've always been curious, and just got reminded again when buying tickets for Thanksgiving travel: why are some of the long-distance trains scheduled appreciably faster (end to end) in one direction than the other? The case I'm most familiar with is the Lake Shore Limited... 49...

Jan 2016 NEC/East Blizzard (was How does Amtrak handle snowstorms?)

Do you guys think today's westbound Lake Shore Limited out of NYP (#49) may be canceled? (How well are trains running along the empire corridor and tri-state area today?) And then, IF it is canceled, would that prevent tomorrow night's eastbound #48 from running, due to the lack of the...

    Things Amtrak employees say

OK, so leaf fires do happen... still curious though, how does the wi-fi actually work? Is there just zero wifi on long distance trains (except in the cafe car)? Or do some of them actually have it?

    Things Amtrak employees say

Hi all - last weekend I took the Lake Shore Limited (49 and 48) from New York to/from Chicago for a holiday visit to the family, and I'm curious about a couple odd statements from the onboard staff. First, when we were pulling out of NYP on Thursday (July 2), somebody complained to the ticket...

Westbound Lake Shore Limited (49) delays in May?

Hi forum, I was thinking of taking Amtrak from New York to Toledo, OH this May to visit relatives in Michigan nearby. However, I have limited time for the visit and it looks from Amtrak's status website like these days the westbound #49 is routinely delayed over 2 and a half hours by the time...

BNSF Derailment - Impact on Empire Builder

Still glad I wasn't on that one! Today's edition is now resting in Minot, only half an hour behind schedule ...

BNSF Derailment - Impact on Empire Builder

Well we just left Minneapolis on time ... stopped for ten minutes to let a freight go by but now slowly moving. Hope it's less of a mess by the time we make it up to Fargo!

BNSF Derailment - Impact on Empire Builder

Ah it's right there on the front page... somehow I never saw that "Service Disruptions" link. Thanks very much Davy. They used to be up top, in the horizontal blue bar above most of the text (I think.) You'd think they could email everyone affected... not that many folks are going to go on...

BNSF Derailment - Impact on Empire Builder

Yeah, when I got the ticket (and didn't get an airline ticket) last fall I was thinking that the problems were limited to summer. Have since learned that's not the case, but now the air tickets are much more expensive to buy of course... Seriously though, if I don't see an alert link on...

BNSF Derailment - Impact on Empire Builder

I'm taking the Builder from Chicago to Seattle -- leaving tomorrow Jan. 2 -- so I hope this isn't too bad! I went on Amtrak's website http://www.amtrak.com/home but there is no alert link there now, so I'm guessing/hoping they already cleared up the problem? Or am I not looking in the right...
