    Early deboarding

If I am in coach with no checked baggage, will I have any issues getting off the train before my scheduled departure station. I can save about 25% by booking a longer trip. Specifically I am looking at New York to Richmond VA and departing at Alexandria VA or Washington DC.

Southbound Auto Train on May 17 was just canceled

Once I found the recent history, it all made sense. Of course I never looked at that when I booked the train the other day. It ended up all working out for me. Something came up this morning and I would not have been able to make the train anyway. So now I have a full refund and I can rebook...

Southbound Auto Train on May 17 was just canceled

I do see that 4 of the last 10 departures have been more than two hours late. One was 4+ hours late and another was more than 7 hours late

Southbound Auto Train on May 17 was just canceled

Any idea why the 5/17/22 SB Auto Train was canceled?

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

OP here and I am currently on the Metror in the 9812 car. It is a Viewliner II and it is very nice. I especially like the sinks in the room and the bathroom. No more spraying water all over the place. Only downside is WiFi has not yet been installed on the new car. The other sleepers as well...

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

Thanks for the video. It still looks like being in the xx12 car is a good bet to get the Viewliner II. I will report back next month after my trip.

    Coach Ridership on Auto Train

I took the Auto Train in October and December. In both instances it was Northbound. At that time of the year I would expect much heavier ridership in the opposite direction. That said, on both trips, coach ridership appeared to be minimal. I could see through many of the windows, and I saw...

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

I actually asked the agent to transfer me to her supervisor so he knew about her excellent (and fast) service. He was in a conference call but said he would call me back. So far no call.

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

OK I am the original poster and here is a new update. The queue was so long yesterday that I waited until this morning to call back Amtrak. This time I got a wonderful agent who knew exactly what I wanted and how to do it. She was able to get me in the XX12 cars on both trains (even though...

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

Original poster here with a frustrated update. I had originally booked the 9811 car and the Silver Star 9111 car for our return. When I booked, I was told these were the highest numbered sleeper cars available on each train. This morning I attempted to modify the reservation with an agent. I...

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

Thanks. The one agent did say the 11 car was available. So I think I will give it a try. My wife has never ridden in a Viewliner roomette and was not real keen on the toilet in the room. I have only ridden solo in Viewliners, so it has never been an issue for me.

Reserving a Silver Meteor Viewliner II Sleeper

I am trying to find out if any Viewliner II sleepers are regularly on the current Silver Meteor consist. If so, what is the best way to snag a roomette in one of the new cars? I have seen some posts in the long Viewliner II thread that indicate the xx12 car is usually a Viewliner II. I am...

    Best Roomette on Amtrak Superliner!

When I have a choice, I always pick 5 or 6. I prefer to be upstairs. I avoid 9 and 10 because it can be a little noisy next to the doors. I also avoid 2, because it is near the bathroom and coffee area. Others like 2, because of location. That said, I would take any of the upstairs...

Business Class Coming to Auto Train Feb 1, 2016

Does anyone know what Business Class seating actually is today on the Auto Train? How many are sold on each trip? I have seen old posts indicating it a separate car and another post that indicated it was lower level seating in one (or more) designated cars. If I remember correctly, there are...

    Pacific Parlour Car Temporary Withdrawal

I guess this just shows the inconsistency in Amtrak, even on the same route. On Dec 6, the lower level was closed and the glass was given as the reason. Maybe some of the five parlour cars have been retrofitted with the compliant glass. Maybe one crew just did not want to bother opening the...

    Pacific Parlour Car Temporary Withdrawal

Earlier this month both the PPC attendant and my SCA said the cars would be out for 45 days beginning in mid January. The PPC attendant said the glass was fine in the upper level. The lower level is currently closed because it does not have the FRA compliant glass. He did not believe they had...

    422 Texas Eagle

I can only speak from my experience, but I have always had the hand towels and wash cloths. I am currently in the middle of a round the country journey and I am on my 5th superliner in the past two weeks. None of the legs have been on the Texas Eagle, but the CL, SWC, CS and CZ have all had them.

    422 Texas Eagle

I have never had a roomette without fresh HAND towels and washcloths. The bath towels are in the shower or sometimes on the luggage racks near the shower. Just ask your attendant if you can't find them

The Vermonter: Just another Northeast Regional until Vermont?

They were still serving Long Trail Ale earler this year.

    Pacific Parlour Car Temporary Withdrawal

The attendant also said they are not substituting an SSL during the period the parlour car is gone. He already has a (hopefully temporary) position on another train.
