Best time to buy AutoTrain tickets for a mid-July trip?

I'll be headed from Florida to Pennsylvania and back in mid-July, and I'd like to take the AutoTrain. I'd like to get a roomette or bedroom without paying high bucket for it. Is there a "best" time to purchase sleeper AutoTrain tickets for travel in July, or should I just go ahead and make my...

Along with the above suggestions, don't forget to do some eagle watching out the left side of the EB between St Paul and La Crosse, especially around Red Wing. Bald eagles winter there thanks to the open water spots on the upper Mississippi River (which RW has plenty of, thanks to the Cannon...

Best route for a 2-3 hour joyride out of Chicago?

One restaurant on the Wolverine line--and near the Troy Transit Center, where the Wolverine stops--is the Big Rock Chop House, a steakhouse located in the building which had been the Grand Trunk passenger station in Birmingham for many years.

Body scanner test at DC Union Station

Oh joy! Now I can get groped by TSA thugs at an Amtrak station, after "anomalies" are found by the body scanner, the same way the ones at Tampa International Airport find "anomalies" (resulting in the TSA's groping me in public) EVERY TIME that I fly from there. Every damn time.
