Hello all

I am from the UK and am looking to book tickets for two adults, a 3 year old and a 18 month old on the overnight train from Washington DC to Savannah in August. We cannot seem to book either a room or a roomette as there are too many of us. Is that correct?

What do people normally do in this scenario? Could we just book 4 coach seats?

We are very used to internationl train travel and overnight trains but are just struggling with the Amtrak website and what it will allow.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

:hi: Welcome to another of our Brit Cousins! :) Please consider joining as a member of this Forum (it's Free and Easy!)so you can take advantage of the many benefits it offers!

As to Booking a Bedroom, you will have to call Amtrak since you Cannot Book Sleepers for more than 2-3 Persons Online! You Will be able to Book a Bedroom for 4, or Two Roomettes if Bedrooms are unavailable on your travel Dates! Depending on the Price (called Buckets)it may be cheaper to Book Two Roomettes! (ask for Two across from each other if Avaialable)

Remember that All Meals are included in the Diner for Passengers and you will have Two Fares, One will be the Rail Fare for each Passenger (half price for the Kids) and the Room is just One Price, each Person doesnt have to pay the room Charge!Your Train will be a Single Level Train, either the Silver Meteor or the Silver Star, these are Popular Trains and their are only Limited amount of Rooms Available so Book early as Possible and try to be flexible in your Travel Dates if you can! If you have to ride in Coach, pleaee read all the info available on this forum, lots of great tips here! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, lots of good info here, some is even True!

Like Jim said above, you'll need to call Amtrak (1-800-872-7245) to make that accommodation since it is system prohibited. You may also consider booking two roomettes (you probably could get two next to each other this far out), and it might even end up saving you a little cash in the process.

That number won't work from the U.K. Jane, call (001) 215-856-7953 to get Amtrak from the UK. Also, read http://www.seat61.com/UnitedStates.htm, an excellent guide to Amtrak for visitors from other countries.

Thanks so much for the kind responses everyone. I may well join up as there is lots of very helpful information here. We are doing some other journeys along that line on our holiday this year so will be buying quite a few tickets.
