My oldest daughter who lives in the IND area is on the 2012 Super Bowl Committee (no - she can't get tickets)
Some interesting things are happening:
The National Football League plans to transform Indianapolis Union Station into a high-end gathering place for special guests leading up to Super Bowl XLVI.
Dubbed NFL House, the exclusive venue is a first for Super Bowls. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., the event space will woo NFL movers and shakers from Feb. 2 through Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 5.
NFL House will cater to the NFL's special guests, such as team owners and sponsors. Day passes for guests -- it's invitation only -- will cost $400, though the fee will be waived in some cases.
"I think it will be a place to go to unwind and maybe get away from the busy-ness of Super Bowl weekend," said Mary Pat Augenthaler, vice president of events for the NFL.
The NFL has never had a facility like this, she said, but plans to construct them at the next two Super Bowls to provide guests with a little extra hospitality. The Crowne Plaza hotel will cater the food and supply the entertainment.
The NFL is considering bringing in celebrity chefs to do cooking demonstrations and celebrity bartenders to serve drinks, Augenthaler said. Wine tastings and talks given by NFL legends also could be on the table, she said.
In addition to the frills, NFL House will serve as a business center where guests can charge electronic devices, have their shoes shined and generally kick up their feet. "It will give a lot of people a home base," Augenthaler said.
The Super Bowl Host Committee helped the NFL get on track with the location but will have access to it only on game day -- and even that will be limited.
"It's sort of all-out hospitality," committee chairman Mark Miles said of the project.
At least one special set of private cars will be run from Chicago to IND. If you have to ask the price you probably can't afford it!
