May 10, 2006......had I stayed, would have been my 30th anniversary with Amtrak's Reservation Call Center. My actual start date with Amtrak was December 14, 1974, but after a year and a half in OBS, we we're furloughed from the JAX crew base, with several of us winding up in the Call Center with a new union, etc.
I actually left Amtrak in September, 1979...only about a year prior to the JAX call center's closing and moving to Philadelphia.
Many times I wonder how different that my life would have been had I "followed" the job.....But, honestly, I really can't complain!!
