Apple Corps and Shmuckers Announce Plans For Summer Music Festival
Apple Corps, the Beatles-founded holding company and owner of their record label, Apple Records, along with Shmuckers, makers of the world's finest jams, jellies and preserves, today announced their plans to co-sponsor a series of moving music festivals across the United States this summer. The series of 2-day festivals will feature popular performers of every decade from the 1960's through today, covering a wide range of musical genres.
In announcing the festival series, Apple Corps and Shmuckers spokespersons said that the music festival, called the Mixed Fruit Jam Music & Arts Festival, will begin it's tour at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida. It will then make its way around the country via three private rail cars attached to the back of regularly scheduled Amtrak passenger trains, similar to the way the 1970 Festival Express music festival moved across Canada. Festival dates and venues that have been confirmed thus far are:
June 18-19 - Tropicana Field, Tampa, FL
June 25-26 - Mellon Arena, Pittsburgh, PA
July 9-10 - Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL
July 23-24 - Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX

Negotiations are continuing with other performers, including John Mellencamp, who is not sure he quite fits in with the rest of the lineup, Pearl Jam (that el doesn't sit well with the sponsors) and Britney Spears (sponsors are concerned her big S may disqualify her).
