Looks like the southbound Silver Star had a rough night! Anybody know what may have happened?

It seemed to be running fine (no more than 6 minutes behind schedule) until it reached RVR - where it arrive 2 hours late and ended up departing 4 hours late. It continued running 4 hours behind until it hit SAV where it became classified as a Service Disruption.

would it be related to this ? not sure.

Track work being performed by CSX Transportation will affect northbound Train 90 as follows: on the dates shown below, Train 90 will operate between Florence, S.C., and New York only, and will not stop at Savannah, Ga., or Yemassee, Charleston and Kingstree, S.C

Nope, the Star runs via the inland route. Can't be that.

Whatever it is, it has impacted service all the way to Miami, or at least the website and 800-number's ability to report train status.

Directly from Amtrak's website the answer is:

Thanks Scott, but unfortunately this service alert does not affect the Star (at least directly). After Rocky Mount, the Silver Star turns to the west at Selma and takes a more inland route through the Carolinas. This inland route does not pass through the track area in question between Florence and Savannah. Only the Silver Meteor and the Palmetto are affected by this. Thanks though!

Did anyone hear anything more about this Service Disruption or what caused it?

Automated train status is still down for that particular run.
