Amtrak tunnels

It’s Halloween on the California Zephyr and it occurs to me…perhaps Amtrak could contract with Disneyland or Six Flags and put up a couple of lights shows or maybe a troll or two in some of these tunnels. Moffett Tunnel is just asking for a treatment.

Could be fun! Now I’ll continue drinking my second gin and tonic…first one was free with my grilled cheese…as we descend into Denver. A great trip from Salinas on the Coast Starlight, overnight at the Hyatt House in Emeryville, and on to the Zephyr Eastbound.

Don't really think the Union Pacific is into Halloween enough to use their civil engineering staff's time to evaluate Halloween decor to ensure it will not restrict clearances, schedule a work window to prevent movement through the tunnel, and paying an MOW crew to go into a 7 mile tunnel and put them up.

Putting up holiday decorations is an integral part of Disney's business. It isn't part of UP's.

Remarkable! Very similar to the picture of the inside of the Cascade Tunnel I took last spring and shared here.

Reminds me of the Southern Pacific 4294, a cab forward steam locomotive. It was meant for the long tunnels over the Sierra so that the engineer and fireman didn't just suck in all that smoke.

I did wonder about that. As you go through the tunnels, what on earth did they do in the old days?
